What Is COVID19 – How The UK Government Dealing With It?

This deadly virus was first noticed in late 2019 in Wuhan city of China. The reason behind it was the family of viruses known as coronavirus. As it was so contagious, it has been spreading its legs to many countries. Ultimately, the World Health Organization declared this virus a pandemic.

On 11 February 2020, it gave a name as COVID-19 which was the short variant of coronavirus disease 2019. Apart from this, Its scientific name is SARS-CoV-2 that stands for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. Scientists believe that it somewhat relates to the SARS outbreak in  2003. To remove the ambiguity, the World Health Organisation gave it the name COVID-19. So it has given different names at different points of time like, novel coronavirus, 2019-nCoV and Coronavirus etc.

COVID-19 has affected countries in surprisingly different ways. It caused the highest deaths in the USA, followed by Italy, Spain, Germany, China, France, Iran, United Kingdom, Switzerland and Turkey. Overall deaths across the world crossed number in millions, and it is increasing day by day.

Apart from this, its impact differs from person to person depending on their age group, medical health and immune system etc. For some people, it shows a mild effect but for some situations, it gets worse. This made the coronavirus vaccine, the biggest need of the hour. Scientists across the world are participating in a surge to come up with the effective corona vaccine, but work is still in progress. Different vaccines are in the different phases of the trial, and scientists expect that soon we will get the right vaccine for Covid-19. One of the highly affected countries, the United Kingdom is planning to give doses to adults by early April.

Planning of The UK Government About COVID-19 Vaccination

The National Health Service, England is planning to start vaccinating adults in the country by April. This virus is largely affecting senior citizens, a person suffering from other serious illness, and a person who has a weak immune system, therefore it is necessary to vaccinate them as soon as possible.

Until then, we can ensure the security of our senior citizens by installing a personal alarm at home. It will let us know, whenever our senior citizen feels danger, falls in an emergency or feels loneliness. Apart from this vaccination will be executed only when the right doses and other necessary elements will present.

As per one of the documents examined by the health service journal(HSJ), the additional doses will be procured from January to March every week. The UK government can execute it at various vaccination sites decided by regional medical practitioners along with big vaccination sites arranged in stadiums and conference centres.

It has been decided that the process will start by vaccinating healthcare workers and caretakers by November end or December beginning. Next to that vaccination will be opened for people in their 80s, 70s and 60s simultaneously.

People who are below 50 years of age will get the vaccines by the end of January.  Remember this is a plan, and its successful execution depends on the required number of doses by December. However, it is still unclear which vaccine will be final by then and how many doses of Pfizer and Moderna will be present for vaccination. Also, it is not explained how supply chain challenges will be tackled.

By observing the serious consequence of coronavirus, US pharmaceutical company Pfizer and BioNTech, a German organisation asked permission to use it temporarily to save lives. Doctors find Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine effective to a major extent that already passed two-phase of trials.

Impressed by this, The UK government has given order in advance for about 40 million doses of Pfizer vaccines and near 5 million doses of Moderna.

According to James Naismith statement given at the University of Oxford Coronavirus in the UK is taking a downturn as per the testing survey. One can see a decrease in cases per day, and the reason behind it is an effective lockdown in the UK.

This is a big hope for the country that it is moving towards recovery. The UK government sees this the only way to lower the infections. The World Health Organisation has released a strong recommendation to avoid Remdesivir( Ebola medicine) to treat a person admitted for COVID-19. However, the Food and Drug Administration permitted Remdesivir for treating people above 12, but Martin Landray finds it ineffective for controlling death rate from Coronavirus.

Also, it is not reasonable and comfortable to use Remdesivir medicine. To create a shield against Coronavirus, the UK government already gave an order for PPE( Personal protective equipment) from production houses.

Not only the UK  but other countries are also taking serious steps to prevent a citizen from contagious COVID-19. The United States of America informed people in the country to avoid travel for the Thanksgiving holiday, which is falling on 26th November.

Although it is a highly contagious virus, it has been life-threatening for senior citizens and people who are already suffering from different diseases. So, it is necessary to give special attention to vulnerable loved ones.

In the UK, the population of the senior citizens is high, and most of the time it happens that they reside alone. It puts their life at threat. In a lockdown, if they fall in an emergency and no one is around what they will do? A personal alarm is a device that will help them to call for help. Ultimately, immediate help will arrive at your doorstep.

Personal alarms provide our elderly to get instant access to the concerned person once they encounter an emergency, for example, fall, heart failure and other health issues etc. Emergency alarms consist of a button which our elderly need to press in case of emergency, and they will get the immediate response. A personal alarm is an asset for senior citizens and vulnerable loved ones but Corona time made it need of the hour. Getting support in time can save a life.

Conclusion

Although pandemic is prevailing in the world, it is our patience and consciousness that can take us out of this tough time. Getting up to date about coronavirus can help us to take caution against it. Prevention is always better than cure. So, stay updated and take proper care of your and loved ones.
